This Month’s Featured Webinar is:

James Tongate:
Hiring Veterans

My presentation is focused squarely on the core challenge of translation & transferability when it comes to military veterans’ skills/experience when considering them for employment.  The basis of my presentation aligns to the fantastic research quoted from the Institute for Veterans & Military Families (IVMF) @ Syracuse University – “Guide to Leading Policies, Practices & Resources”: “Employers… cite practical impediments to executing a veteran-focused employment strategy.  Such impediments form the basis of tension between external pressures based on ‘doing right’ by America’s veterans, and the practical realities associated with managing a fair, efficient, and effective human resources practice.”  My presentation will start with the WHY (we at Marsh & McLennan Companies) chose to focus on hiring veterans; I’ll clearly identify the problem by making the business case – “The Challenge”; dive into “The Evidence”; shift the business case more to the practical; then end with a call to action.

On another note, the veteran talent programs I’ve created / directed to date have earned national accolades whereas before we were not ever on the map (so to speak) – Last year, we were named the #1 Military Friendly® Employer in the nation (by GI Jobs Magazine); this year we’re #3.  Additionally, Marsh & McLennan Companies ranked in the Top 10 “Best for Vets” Employers for 2017 (Military Times Magazine); this year we’re in the Top 25.

The cost for this webinar is $20 for HR Indiana SHRM members, $30 for non-members.
