2026-2027 Leadership Application
Process:
• Friday, September 12 – applications are due
• By Thursday, September 25 – interviews will be conducted for qualified candidates
• By Friday, September 26- the slate of candidates is prepared, selected, and sent for approval to the entire State Council (candidates will be notified if they have been slated for the role or not)
• By October 10 – candidates are notified of the election results

State Council Director Elect
Serves as deputy to the state council director. Works with the state council director to establish policy, strategies, and objectives consistent with SHRM Board policies. Provides guidance to elected and volunteer staff who are responsible for accomplishing state and SHRM objectives. In the absence or request of the State Council Director, carries out tasks/responsibilities of the State Council Director.
Mid-East District Director (shadow current District Director in 2026 with movement into role in 2027)
Serves as a council representative of a designated geographical area within a state. Provides leadership and communication to further the Society’s goals and objectives between existing and future SHRM members and SHRM professional and student chapters.
Membership Director
Provide leadership to membership activities in chapters, particularly assuring that chapter membership directors have access to resources necessary to recruit at-large SHRM members to chapters, local chapter members only to SHRM, and non-affiliated HR professionals to both organizations. Provide leadership to member engagement/retention measurement and strategies of chapters.
Diversity & Inclusion Director
Continually monitors and evaluates state and local activities concerning inclusion, equity, and diversity matters and works with chapter diversity directors to encourage involvement at the chapter level.
Communications & Technology Director
Promotes awareness of the purpose and actions of the council through ongoing communication efforts and branding initiatives, using social media tools. Makes sure that HR professionals, both within and outside of SHRM are fully informed of council resources and activities by using existing and developing media platforms. Works closely with other council members to ensure the council is portraying a consistent and professional image to its members and to the business community at large.
SHRM Foundation Director
Educates, promotes, and represents the interests of the SHRM Foundation and its activities to the state council and chapters.
Workforce Readiness Director
The Workforce Readiness Director monitors and evaluates on a continuing basis state and local activities concerning workforce readiness issues and works with chapter workforce readiness advocates to plan and encourage chapter involvement and activities impacting the workforce readiness arena. Presents a report or update to the state council director and members on workforce readiness developments, issues, and/or initiatives.
Emerging Professional Director
Help connect, engage, and grow the next generation of HR leaders! You’ll lead state-level recruitment and retention efforts for Emerging Professionals, bridging the gap between student members and chapter membership.
