Hosting a Fall SHRM Certification Chapter Study Group?

Please let me know (Jennifer.Lange@oldnational.com) if your chapter is planning/hosting a fall SHRM Certification (SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP) study group. It can either be a study group that the chapter sponsors (i.e. coordinates/runs, etc.) or one in which you partner with a recognized local education partner (colleges, universities, etc.)! I would love to share the specifics of what your chapter is doing with those who make inquiries via the HR Indiana State Council so we can begin referring people your way (and we can share information at the HR Indiana Conference in August as well)! We can also continue to think about how we may be able to share your SHRM Certification Study Group information on our website.

Also, if you are thinking about trying to get a chapter study group going for this fall, I would be happy to assist you and/or share some best practices. As always, please let me know how I may be able to assist you/your chapter/your membership with SHRM Certification efforts!

Further, SHRM created the SHRM Certification resources and tools to help you promote SHRM Certification preparation, SHRM Certification and Recertification. Learn how your chapter can partner with a SHRM Education Partner to host an instructor-led cert prep course and/or host and administer a facilitator-led SHRM Learning System study group. Tools are available.

Remember, if your chapter is planning on hosting a SHRM Certification study group – the 2019 SHRM Learning System is available with some deeply discounted prices through the Holmes Corporation. Our Indiana contact is Alison Costello, Alison.Costello@shrm.org, 651-905-2654. If you have any issues/concerns, please reach out to me, and we can work though it (i.e. the minimum order requirement, etc.)

SHRM Certification Info from Q1 SHRM Certification CLA Call/Webcast

SHRM shared via their Q1 Certification Director Core Leadership Area (CLA) call/webcast that the average is 30% in terms of those chapter members who are also National SHRM members who hold a SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification – please help your members get SHRM Certified! If your chapter sends out a welcome email or letter to your chapter’s new members – think about adding SHRM Certification information if you aren’t already doing that!

If you haven’t used the SHRM Volunteer Exchange, consider using it! It is a community created exclusively for SHRM volunteer leaders. Further, it is a place where you can ask your specific volunteer-related questions and receive volunteer feedback from across the country. Access the Volunteer Exchange.

While you are out on the VLRC, please check out the SHRM Certification and Recertification information. The tools on the VLRC are customizable to and can be ready to go content for your website, information to share at chapter events, as well as a lot of helpful information to answer SHRM Certification and/or Recertification questions that may come up.

If you have any issues/concerns, please reach out to me (Jennifer.Lange@oldnational.com) and we can work though it (i.e. the minimum order requirement, etc.)

Remember, SHRM produces a Quarterly Membership Report which shows (in a specific column) the number of SHRM Certified SHRM members primarily coded to each chapter – if you haven’t seen the report and would like to, please reach out reach out to me (Jennifer.Lange@oldnational.com) or our Indiana Membership Engagement Associate (MEA) – Nicole Hall (Nicole.Hall@shrm.org) and we can work through how you can obtain the data.

SHRM also, by request via our MEA (Nicole Hall, Nicole.Hall@shrm.org), can generate a Chapter Membership Roster for your chapter; this report will include a listing of all SHRM Certified SHRM members primarily coded to your chapter, recertification cycle dates for each person on the list, and the recertification application submitted date for each person on the list.

Chapters can request a listing of your at-large SHRM members as often as needed –there is no maximum number of at-large list requests you can submit for the year. Each time you request the list, it is for a single use. Request a new, updated list each time you intend to use the at-large information. Note, if the purpose of your request is to mail something to the at-large members, you will need to provide a copy of what you plan on sending to the at-large members to SHRM. To request your at-large list, complete the request form.

REMEMBER – SHRM Adapted their SHRM Recertification Requirements

Budget constraints, location or schedule shouldn’t keep you or others from earning the 60 PDCs needed to maintain the SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP certification.  SHRM adapted their recertification process to provide additional flexibility to match a lot of our learning needs.

In the Fall of 2018, SHRM announced there will no longer be a maximum limit on self-paced activities, in the ‘Advance Your Education’ category.
