Foundation Update November 2019

Amy Wright, SHRM-SCP

Amy Wright, SHRM-SCP, Foundation Director

The SHRM Foundation continues to evolve its mission, vision and values to reflect the growing need for HR as a catalyst for workplace and social change.

Overview

The SHRM Foundation’s mission is to mobilize the power of HR and activate the generosity of donors to lead positive social change impacting all things work. The Foundation is committed to elevating and empowering HR as a social force through its innovative solutions to workplace inclusion challenges, programming designed to inspire and empower the next generation of HR leaders, and awarding scholarships and professional development grants to educate and develop students and HR professionals.  The SHRM Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit affiliate of the Society for Human Resource Management.

Purpose
Elevate and empower HR as a social force.

Mission
Mobilizing the power of HR and the generosity of donors to lead positive social change impacting work, workers and the workplace.

Vision
A world of work that works for all.

The Foundation advances its purpose through workplace initiatives, thought leadership and education scholarships.

HR Indiana has been a proud supporter of the SHRM Foundation and held a place in the Top Ten List of State Councils (for giving recognition) for the past several years. This year, we were the first state to achieve 100% Giving Status, which means all our chapters contributed to the Foundation directly from chapter funds.

Additionally, Ed Carpenter, future SHRM Foundation Director of HR Indiana, was featured on a CLA webinar, and recently asked to provide feedback on an additional session. He accomplished all this in addition to leading the Red Carpet Raffle at HR Indiana. Great work, Ed! And great work to ALL chapters who contributed amazing raffle donations.

As 2019 ends, please keep our support initiatives in mind.  Here are things your chapter can do:

  1. Encourage members to donate directly to the Foundation and join Team Empower.  Individuals who donate $30 or more AND make a pledge to support the Foundation’s Inclusion Initiatives will become members of Team Empower. Your members can designate their chapter AND HR Indiana to receive recognition credit for their donation.

  2. Encourage Memorial Giving. Individuals who make a direct donation can also designate their donation as a memorial to a loved one. Callie Zipple, North Central Field Services Director, who recently passed away after a brief illness, was an amazing friend of HR Indiana and the SHRM Foundation. Honoring her with a donation would be a lovely tribute.
  3. Share the Veteran at Work Certificate. The SHRM Foundation Veterans at Work Certificate is a free online learning tool available to all HR Professionals. Encourage your members to share freely!

  4. Get next year’s scholarship deadlines on your chapter calendars! The Foundation awards approximately $500,000 annually in scholarships for conferences, undergraduate and graduate education and SHRM Certification.

Thank you for a great year in Foundation support!
