SHRM Certification

Welcome to 2023! As we begin a new year, it is always a great time to think about our personal
and professional development. One of the ways we can continue our growth as HR professionals
is with a SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP Certification.
The SHRM Certification holds many benefits. The SHRM Certification website lists the following, in part, for consideration:
- Enhance Your HR Expertise. HR professionals who earn the SHRM Certification report significantly higher levels of credibility as HR professionals.
- Increase Your Earning Potential. Those who earn the SHRM Certification report earning salaries 14%-15% higher than their peers.
- Advance Your HR Career – The majority of HR hiring managers list SHRM’s Certification as the preferred qualification.
- Demonstrate Your Commitment – SHRM Certified HR professionals reported significantly higher levels of career success.
Exam Windows
The SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP exams are offered during two windows each year. Applications must be received by the standard deadline for each window.

The SHRM Foundation also has several grant opportunities available! The next grant application window opens April 11, 2023 – so make sure to mark your calendar!
Indiana has 14 SHRM Affiliate chapters, each with a Certification Chair. Many of these chapters have study groups, either hosted, partnered with, or recommendations; and/or resources that can help you prepare. I encourage you to reach out to your local chapter and make connections. So much learning occurs from each other. If you aren’t sure if there is a local chapter near you, you can information on the SHRM Local Membership website.
I also wanted to share information from our IndySHRM chapter on an offering they have related to their Spring 2023 SHRM Certification Study Group, which will be hosted weekly on Wednesday evenings from 5:45-8:15 p.m. ET for 11 weeks starting February 8, 2023 on the north side of Indianapolis.
