Q: Why did you get into HR?
A: I love working with people and find that HR gives me the opportunity to interact with people at all levels of the company. I enjoy the internal customer service aspect of HR while also making sure to help keep companies compliant and well informed of new laws, mandates and trends.
Q: What do you love most about your job?
A: I love the culture and positive interactions! Payroll is a skill I have honed through the past 15 years and remains one of my favorite parts of my HR roles.
Q: What is a professional challenge you faced and overcame?
A: I have started a few jobs that required me to learn a completely new payroll/HRIS system along with new processes. I feel that I was always able to learn the new system quickly as well as add efficiencies that helped save time.
Q: What has been one of your greatest professional accomplishments?
A: Attaining my SHRM-CP certification was a big step for me. Studying for this while working full time and caring for my family was quite a lot to juggle. The Michiana SHRM study group led by Linda Krueger was an amazing help and I encourage anyone looking to attain their certification to find one near you! Most chapters offer textbook assistance and various scholarship opportunities.
Q: Why is SHRM membership important to you?
A: My SHRM membership keeps me connected to other SHRM members. It also keeps me up to date with compliance items and important issues that affect my company.
Q: How has being a member of SHRM helped you in your career?
A: Being connected to such a large network of HR professionals has helped me stay in touch with other HR professionals and has even helped me to find new employment opportunities.
Q: What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
A: Outside of work, I am a busy wife and mother of three. I love to garden and am a hobby silversmith.
Q: Who or what inspires you?
A: I gain inspiration from the strong women in both my personal and professional life. I have been lucky to have fantastic mentors who have encouraged me and supported my journey into HR. I look forward to keeping that torch going in my career. “When women support other women, amazing things happen!”
