HR Generalist

Position Overview

The Human Resources Generalist is a valued member of the EDCOAT team. This full-time, exempt position is based in New Carlisle, Indiana and reports to the Director of Human Resources. The HR Generalist will have both administrative and strategic responsibilities, helping to plan and administer important employee focused functions.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Develops and maintains partnerships with business leaders, serving as a Human Resources advisor.
  • Responsible for building and maintaining professional, supportive relationships with employees.
  • Full-Cycle Talent Acquisition/Management
    • Leads intake meetings, develops/maintains job descriptions, posts and promotes openings, screens and sources candidates, conducts phone screens and interviews, and coordinates required assessments.
    • Meets regularly with hiring manager for status updates and partners to identify qualified candidates.
    • Extends verbal offers, written offers, and administers relevant background checks and drug screenings.
    • Engages with various staffing or external agencies as required. Provides temporary employee timecards/hours to agencies, reviews invoices for accuracy, and serves as the main contact for all aspects of temporary employment.
  • Employee Lifecycle
    • Maintains employee records in HCM and electronic files.
    • Manages processes related to employee onboarding, temporary conversions, promotions, and offboarding.
    • Contributes to initiatives such as performance and compensation reviews, open enrollment, and training/development.
    • Responds to a variety of inquiries from employees and managers.
  • Promptly responds to employee concerns, conducts investigations where necessary and provides resolution recommendations.
  • Oversees performance management including coaching, performance improvement plans, and disciplinary warnings.
  • Leads employee engagement activities and events such as anniversary celebrations, company picnics, and similar to foster a positive company culture.
  •  Actively promotes a culture of safety, partnering with safety leaders to facilitate safety-related programs and policies including the tracking and posting of OSHA data/logs.
  • Serves as a backup for bi-weekly payroll processing.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, business management, or related discipline. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will also be considered.
  • 3+ years of experience in Human Resources within growing small or mid-sized organizations
  • Minimum of 1 year of recruitment experience
  • PHR Certified/SHRM-CSP desired
  • Intermediate experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and similar)
  • Experience using various HR systems and programs such as HCM, HRIS, and ATS
  • Experience with UKG (Ulti-Pro) is desirable
  • Knowledge of HR principles practices/processes and employment laws, and an understanding of business strategy and concepts
  • Exhibits good judgment, strong ethics, and discretion in handling confidential and sensitive information
  • Able to effectively provide constructive feedback, actively listen, and manage conflict
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organization skills with a strong attention to detail
  • Self-motivated, able to effectively manage time and prioritize work

Working Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and use hands to handle objects, tools or controls and sit; talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 40 pounds (storage boxes). Close vision and ability to adjust focus are necessary. The noise level in the work environment varies from a quiet office to moderately loud manufacturing areas with exposure to some chemicals, fumes, and moving machinery.
