Shape the Future of Work in Indiana
Every HR professional in Indiana has a voice—and a responsibility—in shaping the policies that impact our workplaces. Together, we have the opportunity to influence solutions that strengthen organizations, empower people, and contribute to a better world of work.
As a member of SHRM, you are part of a powerful national network committed to advancing workplace policy. Through the SHRM A-Team, you gain access to timely policy insights, advocacy tools, and meaningful opportunities to engage directly with lawmakers. This is how your voice becomes influence—expanding your leadership beyond your organization and into the broader workforce landscape.
What’s Ahead for Indiana (2026–2027)
We are preparing to launch in-district engagement opportunities across Indiana. These initiatives will create space for HR professionals to connect with congressional leaders when they are back home from Washington, D.C.—building relationships, exchanging insights, and positioning HR as a trusted voice in policy conversations.
Why It Matters
These engagements allow you to:
- Build direct relationships with policymakers
- Share real workplace experiences and challenges
- Stay informed on legislative priorities and trends
- Contribute to shaping policies that impact your workforce
2026 In-District Advocacy Priorities
SHRM’s 2026 advocacy efforts are anchored in three core priorities that reflect where policy and workplace reality are converging:
- Education-to-Employment (E2): Advancing employer-led solutions that modernize career pathways, expand access to opportunity, and strengthen talent pipelines so more workers can connect to in-demand jobs.
- Artificial Intelligence (AI): Shaping practical, responsible approaches to AI in the workplace that support innovation and productivity while prioritizing transparency, reskilling, and human impact.
- Caregiving: Advancing employer-informed caregiving solutions as a critical need to support workers and help ensure employee retention
Save the dates: September Recess for DC Congressional leaders (Sept 4-13)
SHRM’s 2026 State Priorities
“State legislatures and local governing bodies play a critical role in influencing the landscape of workplace policy. As the trusted authority on all things work, SHRM actively shapes state and local workplace policies to foster a more prosperous and thriving workforce across the country,”
- AI & Automated Employment Decision Tools: Advancing responsible AI use in the workplace that balances innovation with fair, consistent regulation.
- Paid Leave: Promoting sustainable, flexible paid leave solutions that support both employee well-being and employer viability.
- Skills-Based Hiring: Shifting hiring practices to prioritize skills and capabilities over traditional degree requirements to close talent gaps.
- Supporting Untapped Pools of Talent: Expanding workforce participation by removing barriers and investing in underutilized and overlooked talent groups.
- Pay Transparency: Encouraging fair and informed compensation practices while preserving the full value of total rewards beyond salary.
- Flexible Work Arrangements: Supporting adaptable work models that meet workforce needs without imposing rigid, one-size-fits-all mandates.
- Workplace Health and Safety: Ensuring practical, balanced policies that protect employee well-being while maintaining operational effectiveness.
- Interstate Compacts for Mental Health and Health Care Access: Expanding access to care by enabling cross-state practice and leveraging telehealth to support workforce wellness.
