Foundation Update January 2020

Ed Carpenter, SHRM-SCP, Foundation Director

VLS Fundraising Event

For our fundraising event at our VLS meeting on February 7th, we’d like chapters to bring something we can use for a raffle or a silent auction using a bid sheet. Great items would be a gift card, a gift basket of local goodies, and of course, wine! We should be able to take credit/debit transactions at this event, but bring some cash, too.

Race to 100%

The SHRM Foundation is going to have the 100% Giving Recognition back for 2020, so we’re going to revive the “Race to 100% Giving” theme and also tie it into our fundraising events at the State Conference in August. We’d like all chapters to make a donation with chapter funds by the end of February. This donation doesn’t have to be a large one — $25 or $50 will do the trick for this initiative. Once Indiana becomes the first state to achieve this goal, we’re going to challenge the rest.

Conference Auction and Raffle

We’re going to change up things for our SHRM Foundation fundraising events at the HR Indiana Annual Conference! We’re going to have an online auction in addition to a raffle. The raffle will will be a one-day event and we’re going to run an online auction for the full conference and possibly market the items beyond the conference attendees.

For the online auction, we’d like each chapter to work on creating a gift package (or two) to promote your area of the state. The idea is to solicit hotels in your area to donate a night and have dinner for two at a nice local restaurant and maybe some other entertainment included in the package.

Other items we could put on the online auction could be some type of special event tickets or high ticket items that are donated. Certainly some of the great gift baskets you’ve created over the years could work for the raffle and the online auction. We will need details and/or photos of all the auction items, but not items you want to be in the raffle. We’ll send out more details on this event closer to the conference, but wanted you all to have time to start reaching out for local donations from hotels and restaurants.

Lastly, please remember to encourage your members to make sure to designate your chapter and the Indiana State Council when they make donations to the SHRM Foundation. This helps both groups gain some well-deserved recognition for our support of the Foundation.

As we begin a new year, I think it’s important to revisit why the SHRM Foundation is so important and all that the Foundation does for our organization.
